LUIZADO is inspired by the column of Jupiter, a freestanding Roman monument, which was placed at city centres. Archaeological remains of such columns were found in Tongeren, on these two Roman gods are depicted: Sol (sun god) and Juno (Jupiter's wife and queen of gods). Nick Ervinck was inspired by these remains and created a new contemporary column for the city of Tongeren. By eclectically combining different historic and contemporary elements, Nick Ervinck designed an almost futuristic composite figure. This working process is inherent to the digital designing process, in which different elements are composed and transformed in a virtual setting.  LUIZADO raises an interesting question on the relation between the context or setting of a statue and its added value. The mytho-religious value of the statue shifted to a merely aesthetic value. Yet, LUIZADO implicitly refers to the current culture industry, for example to computer games and Hollywood movies, in which a revival of the Greek-Roman past and its mythology becomes noticeable. Using advanced 3D software, Ervinck tries to interpret these tendencies in an artistic way.
